Kaitie Degen had a chaotic upbringing riddled with abuse, social service intervention and bullying. She never met her father and cared for her drug-addicted mother which meant growing up quickly in a great deal of stress. Her life had been a humbling experience of searching for self worth, but she craved more: more love and honesty towards herself and more confidence to help others do the same. That’s why she created Sober Saturdayz in 2018.
Corinne “Been” Simpson grew up in a religious Christian household. Her alcoholism was fuelled by insecurity, a desire to fit into a world she didn’t understand, and misinformation. After 18 years of sobriety she met Kaitie and the friendship was immediate. While they each approach sobriety from different angles, they share a vision for harm reduction and premium non-alcoholic options. Sober Saturdayz became their joint passion project.
In 2019 Kaitie met Dr. Joel Kailia in Nelson, BC. Joel is sober, employs alternative wellness therapies in his practice, and appreciated Kaitie’s vision for Sober Saturdayz immediately. Joel joined with Been and Kaitie as the financial backer of the company and today the three partners are hustling to ensure that delicious, non-alcoholic beverages can be easily distributed across Canada.
It all started with alcohol-free pop up events and dance parties.
